The creation of a national drug laboratory will cost Georgia at least $ 3 million — the government is considering various options for mobilizing investment resources for its equipment. This was stated at a briefing on Friday by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health of Georgia Tamar Gabunia.

Currently, there is no laboratory in Georgia that studies the quality of local and imported pharmaceutical products. Medicines must be sent for testing in laboratories in Europe. According to Gabunia, the creation of the laboratory is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Health in 2021.

"At the first stage, it will be created at the expense of the state, and, of course, we have the opportunity to use other resources — I'm talking about loan agreements. When purchasing equipment, it is possible to discuss this issue with the European Investment Bank. However, at the first stage, we will consider the issue of investment in infrastructure within the framework of the state program of rehabilitation and equipment, so that the drug quality laboratory will work as soon as possible," Gabunia said.

Speaking in parliament at the end of April, the head of the Ministry of Health, Ekaterina Tikaradze, said that the budget and the corresponding infrastructure have already been mobilized to create a drug laboratory.
